WHO & WHAT: An IRL EVENT with author Brandy Colbert, discussing her newest intergenerational Hollywood YA novel, The Blackwoods. Brandy will be in conversation with fellow author of Black Candle Women, Diane Marie Brown.

WHEN: Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023 @ 7pm PST (doors @ 6:30pm)

WHERE: In-Person at Rep Club in Los Angeles (3054 S. Victoria Ave LA, CA 90016)

COVID REQUIREMENTS: Proof of vaccination and/or face covering while indoors is required to attend in-person. No exceptions.

Brandy Colbert is the award-winning author of several books for children and teens, including Black Birds in the Sky: The Story and Legacy of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, which was the winner of the 2022 Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for Nonfiction and a finalist for the American Library Association's Excellence in Young Adult Nonfiction Award. Her other acclaimed books include Pointe, The Voting Booth, The Only Black Girls in Town, and the Stonewall Book Award winner Little & Lion. A member of the faculty at Hamline University's MFA program in writing for children, Brandy lives in Los Angeles. You can find her online at www.brandycolbert.com.

Diane Marie Brown is a professor at Orange Coast College and a public health professional for the Long Beach Health Department. She has a BA and MPH from UCLA and a degree in fiction from USC's Master of Professional Writing Program. She grew up in Stockton and now lives in Long Beach, California, with her husband, their four daughters, and their dog, Brownie. Black Candle Women is her debut novel.
