WHO & WHAT: An IRL & Virtual EVENT w/ poet, filmmaker, educator, + performer Fatimah Asghar alongside actor, director, + producer Jay Ellis, discussing Fatimah's newest book When We Were Sisters at Reparations Club.

The evening will include an exclusive screening of Retrieval, a short film by Fatimah Asghar.

WHEN: Thursday, October 20, 2022 @ 7pm PST

WHERE: LIVE In-Person at Rep Club in Los Angeles (3054 S. Victoria Ave LA, CA 90016, vaccination + mask required) or via livestream virtually from anywhere!

COVID REQUIREMENTS: Proof of vaccination and face covering while indoors is required to attend in-person. No exceptions.

Fatimah Asghar, author of If They Come for Us, is a poet, filmmaker, educator, and performer. They are the writer and co-creator of Brown Girls, an Emmy-nominated web series that highlights friendships between women of color. Along with Safia Elhillo, they are the editor of Halal If You Hear Me, an anthology that celebrates Muslim writers who are also women, queer, gender-nonconforming, and/or trans.

Jay Ellis is an actor, producer, director, writer, and philanthropist. He starred as ‘Lawrence’ on HBO’s critically-acclaimed comedy series INSECURE for which he won the NAACP Image Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2018. He can also be seen in the FX/HULU limited series MRS. AMERICA, starring Cate Blanchett, and TOP GUN: MAVERICK with Tom Cruise. Jay directed Episode 407 of INSECURE, shot in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and, most recently, directed the Season One finale (Episode 108) of RAP SH!T on HBO Max. As a producer, Ellis released the feature film BLACK BOX for Amazon with Blumhouse Productions under his production company banner Black Bar Mitzvah.
