SKEW is Level Ground’s experimental art + dialogue magazine.
Building on last year’s precedent, SKEW 03 is cooperatively owned by this issue’s curators, designer, and contributing artists. This means that 100% of SKEW sales go directly to support the Black artists who make up this year's SKEW community.
SKEW is an experimental art and dialogue magazine produced annually by Level Ground. From poetry to artwork to photography to essays and more, SKEW features exciting, thought-provoking new work from members of the Level Ground Collective and other artists selected by each issue’s curatorial team. SKEW started as a monthly digital zine in 2017, and we launched the inaugural printed issue in 2019 in conjunction with our 7th Annual Arts Festival. Last year’s magazine was 100 pages long and featured over 50 Black contributors.
This year’s magazine features the curatorial theme Black Abundance.
A celebration of Blackness as an extravaganza of/in Black beings, expressions and revolutions. Cultivating, curing and conjuring bountiful evolutions, claiming an infinite muchness. Black abundance of dynamic infinities in black space and time. Black worlds expanding in several, plural energies rise and vibrate, rise and vibrate. Ideas for submission can reflect and ruminate on the concept of Black Abundance and beyond...
This year’s SKEW Magazine is led by a team of six talented and inspiring Black artists: Nneka Jackson (Editor-in-Chief), Reneice Charles (Managing Editor), Nikki Pressley (Designer), Rraine Hanson (Art Curator), Jda S. G. (Culture Curator), and Treble Vasquez (Marketing/Sales).
